Mantrafox is the performing name of Robert Freemantle, a singer/songwriter and musician from Southampton. He is planning to use this new project to explore a variety of styles and genres and expand his overall experience as a professional musician. Today, I’ll be reviewing his debut single ‘I’m Needing You’ which was released October 13th 2023.
‘I’m Needing You’ immediately endeared itself to me, the melody, the pacing, the vocals all just worked for me. The artist said in an email that this was a Beatles inspired track, and you can feel that, but Mantrafox makes it his own, his vocals powerful, engaging and smooth, and the whole composition has a rich, indie vibe to it that makes it worth listening to. I just like that it managed to be both simple rhythmically and yet it still resonates with you as the listener, how it reminds you of his influences, but doesn’t sound like a carbon copy. I spoke about this a couple weeks ago, but prior to our rebrand I was a little burnt out, both in my personal and professional life, and I was considering putting this platform into an extended hiatus, but it’s hearing awesome music like this that makes me feel like I made the right choice to push through and keep writing. Overall though I really enjoyed it, and I’m eager to see where Mantrafox goes from here, because with a debut as strong as this, the sky really is the limit.
So that’s what I thought of Mantrafox’s single ‘I’m Needing You’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
