Ziggi Battles is a singer/songwriter, musician and drag artist from Ayrshire. They identify as queer, and use He/Him pronouns. Today, I’ll be reviewing his single ‘Man Like Me’ which is an anthem to Ziggi’s experience as a trans man, and was released June 25th 2022.

‘Man Like Me’ opens with a building tone that blends into synth driven vocals, and as the track progresses you get caught up in the high intensity drive of the vocals, backed up by some strong percussive elements. It has a daydream-like quality to it, a flurry of energy and melody that just completely blows you away. As someone who is on their own journey of discovery regarding gender identity, it’s very easy to identify with Ziggi’s song, but I think that the message and the vibe of the song is clear without being overstated, it’s just a very powerful and punchy track. I think going into the track, before first listening I was expecting something softer and more melancholic perhaps but I really enjoyed having those expectations shattered by this powerful, evocative and charming single from an incredibly talented musician.

So that’s what I thought of Ziggi Battles single ‘Man Like Me’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
