Late Fees are a three piece outfit from Glasgow made up of Andrew Gordon on Guitar/Vocals, Michael Hamilton on Bass/Backing Vocals and Jack Mackenzie on Drums/Backing Vocals. They describe their music as “Shamefully Sincere Guitar Pop” and “Naïve music for jaded people” both of which would easily rope me in as a potential listener. Today I will be reviewing their single ‘I Bet’ which was released October 16th 2020.
‘I Bet’ opens with some subtle cracking distortion like you get on old records, before quickly kicking off with some guitar that builds in energy. The percussion working as an excellent undertone, the overall harmony between the three is clear and is one of their strengths. In this track, and this is not a criticism, I vibed a lot more with the instrumentals than the vocals, that’s not to say I didn’t admire the sharp, deep voices of the singers, but something about the melody and beat of the track really worked for me. I look forward to more from Late Fees.
So that’s what I thought of Late Fees single ‘I Bet’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. Make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
