Last weekend, on the 6th and 7th September I was lucky enough to be invited as a journalist, alongside my partner, Tori B Bearly, to talk about Fan Frontier‘s Epic Comic Con. It was overall an incredible event, and before I spend time talking about some of my favourite vendors and artists in attendance, I just want to share a few thoughts about the event as a whole.
First off, we’ve been attending Comic Con events since 2012, and we started with MCM Glasgow which debuted in August of that same year. It was always exciting, particularly since it usually ended up running on the weekend following Tori’s birthday. We attended MCM’s Glasgow event at the SEC (Scottish Event Campus) every year until the organisers, Reedpop rather unceremoniously cancelled their events in Scotland going forward.
It suddenly felt like their was a huge void in our lives, or at the very least our calendars. Sure there were similar events in Edinburgh, but it just wasn’t the same, and clearly we weren’t the only people who thought so because ACME (Attic Convention and Media Events) who for many years had hosted Rai Con, a fantastic anime & manga convention at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall stepped in to fill the void.
They hosted several awesome events from March 2022 onwards, continually upscaling and improving as they did. Each event felt totally different not only from what I’d experienced under MCM but also from what I’d experienced at the previous event as they adapted the space, took on feedback, and really worked to provide the best possible experience for the fans. Which brings us on to 2024 when ACME rebranded, with a renewed passion and focus, they became Fan Frontier, and pulled off what I feel was one of their best events yet. I am certainly a fan. And with that attempt at humour out of the way let’s continue.
I think what I like most is that rather than being one single event, Fan Frontier have elected to create more frequent and curated events designed to appeal to different groups, while still appealing to the overall Comic Con attending niche. For example I’m really excited about Power Con (for gamers) and Kaiju Con (for anime & manga fans). It really does feel like they are placing fans at the forefront of the events, and with each event they continue to expand and grow, so I’m genuinely excited to support them and see where they go next.
In fact I spoke to several people throughout the event, from first timers, to people who’ve been to more Comic Cons than I’ve had hot dinners and the overwhelming opinions were that it was a fun, engaging event, and had such incredible potential. About the only critique I found was that people would have preferred more static signage dotted around the event to direct people to artists and vendors, and that the public announcements were often interrupting the events on stage, as well as conversations in general. But those issue pale in comparison to the bevvy of amazing attractions and experiences at the event.
So what I really wanted to do with this article beyond share my thoughts on the event as a whole was also embrace the Indie Light ethos, of supporting artists and creators, so below I will be showcasing some of my personal favourite artists and vendors of 2025. Please bear in mind that not being featured below doesn’t mean that I didn’t like your work, but rather than there had to be a cap on how many people I featured, and also with several hundred vendors dotted around the event, and my tendency for chatting too much there was no feasible way to get around everyone. If you do however want a spotlight of your very own, or maybe even the chance to be featured in our Promo Spot section, feel free to reach out via social media or the contact section of the site.
Artists & Vendors
Fubzo Papercraft
We’ve talked with the owner of this stall before and not only are they fabulously talented but they are amazingly kind and sweet. While the technical aspect of these papercraft projects are well beyond the limits of my patience and dexterity, there’s no doubt they are amazing creations that are well worth grabbing when you can. You can grab their stuff all year round via their website, and follow them on Twitter and Instagram.

Crochet by Oscar
As someone who’s mum has crocheted her entire life, and who has recently attempted to take it up themselves I can truly attest to the quality of the crochet critters Oscar had on offer. We also had a really great chat with him about his book, and his inspirations, which as a writer myself was particularly interesting. You can purchase some Crochet by Oscar on Etsy, and follow him on Instagram and TikTok.

Gifts by Raven
Unless I’m mistaken this is the first year I’ve encountered Gifts by Raven and that’s such a shame because they’ve got an amazing range of products on offer. I was particularly enamoured with the crocheted ghosts and gourds, as well as the crystal trees which especially grouped together are quite impressive to behold. You can grab some goodies for yourself from Gifts by Raven on Etsy, and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

Helensburgh Soapy Suds
Easily one of my favourite vendors, not only are they endlessly kind and they never fail to greet each customer with a smile but they have an amazing range that’s diverse enough to meet the needs of any Comic Con attendee, while also being selective enough that you know you’re guaranteed quality. In particular Tori wants to note that they make every effort to ensure that their products are suitable for specific skin types as well as allergen friendly. You can check out so what they have on offer on Etsy, and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

Limonmaid
It was an absolute treat to chat with Limonmaid, and their work is incredible, evoking a traditional Japanese art style and blending in seamlessly with modern digital brushwork and an impressive use of colour. The result are amazing pieces that standout regardless of whether they are prints, stickers or keychains. I think my favourite piece on show at Epic Con though was her Mushroom Girl which is just so cute and perfectly stylised, with a warmth that makes it really appealing. If you want to grab some of Limonmaid’s pieces, check out their Etsy, and make sure and follow them on Instagram and TikTok.

Magical Maidens
Immediately eye-catching and sweet, Magical Maidens was not only lovely to chat with but had an amazing range of stickers, badges and charms. I think what was more impressive than the range of products on offer is that they managed to touch on so many popular fandoms, while also maintaining a personal and cohesive sense of style. They are super talented and you can grab some of their products via their website, and make sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Moth & Magpie
This was our first time meeting Moth & Magpie and it was a lovely experience, not only was she super awesome to chat with but she didn’t mind me checking out all the candles to find the perfect aroma for me. Speaking of which she has an amazing range of curated scents all of which are cleverly themed. If you want to get yourself something from their impressive range of products check out their website, also make sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Spectrelotl
Everything about this artist’s work is eye-popping and darkly vibrant, the Castlevania prints in particular were spectacular. Everything about the branding and colour scheme equally appealed to me in particular. I would strongly recommend you check them out for yourselves, which you can do via Etsy. Also make sure to follow them on Instagram.

Succuboi Arts
The whole weekend was incredibly fun, and one of the highlights was chatting to the artist behind Succuboi Arts, and that’s before we touch on their awesome digital creations. I was particularly enamoured by their cute little critters, especially the pigeon wearing the ruff who was just so wholesome. Something else that I really appreciated was a little shopping list you could give to the artist, ideal for people who are non-verbal, struggle with communicating or are just a little overwhelmed. It’s such a lovely gesture and super accommodating as well. If you want to check out more of Succuboi Arts then visit their website, and also make sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Super Cute Awesome Stuff
A name that is categorically backed up by the products on offer, the artist has a truly amazing range of items ranging from stickers and buttons right through to various prints. Andy’s Pins & Prints
Not only were the owners of this stall an absolute treat to chat with, but I came away with a greater appreciated for 3D printed artwork. Speaking of which, they have such an amazing range of products, that If we hadn’t already successfully blown through our budget for Comic Con I’d be the proud owner of my very own dinosaur right now. You can find Andy’s Pins and Prints over on Facebook.

Bardic Inspiration
We could not resist stopping by this vendor, their fantastic artwork and products inspired by tabletop roleplay games like Dungeons & Dragons called out to us…like magic? Seriously though, they’ve got some amazing dice sets, as well as some absolutely amazing prints (I was particularly taken by the WoRm print which I’m going to grab for myself next time I get paid). Everything though is of such an amazing quality, and they were so lovely to chat with as well. Cryptid Jak
Over the weekend we had the opportunity to meet and chat with a lot of talented artists, but Cryptid Jak was one of my favourites. In fact, they are very much in tune with my own personal brand. In fact, I looked at all the products on their stall and plenty on their site, and their wasn’t a single thing I wouldn’t consider buying. They have a style that blends bright purples and pinks, with cute cryptids and an overall horror aesthetic that I find really appealing. You can check out more from Dolly Peg Bakery, and maybe make on order via their website, don’t forget to follow them on Facebook and Instagram either.

Tori and I both were really excited to visit this stall because it has such an amazing range of magic items. Tori being a life long practicing witch, she’s obviously really interested in the aesthetic, especially when it borders onto another of her passions, specifically tabletop roleplay games like Dungeons & Dragons. We both absolutely adored the treasure chest mimics. But honestly there wasn’t a bad find at Dragonfly Creative Arts. Jon’s work is sensational, the powerful balance of primarily monochromatic pieces, with macabre and horror imagery and crosshatching to create pieces that are bold and impressive without relying upon bright colour to be eye-catching. Not only is every piece of his work impressive he was also really great to chat with. You can check out more from Jon Turner via their website, and don’t forget to follow them on Twitter and Instagram.

Kroov
An amazingly talented artist, and super kind as well. Their style can be best summed up as high fantasy, meets renaissance. But that is by no means the limit of their style as they have so many gorgeous creations. I was particularly enamoured by their Magpie which really spoke to me as I’ve had regular visits from magpie’s since I lost my father a few years ago. The intricate designs on show from Luna UK Studio are truly spectacular. The skill and range and quality behind this artist’s products is truly impressive. A truly wonderful talent, who not only gave me some great advice to pass on to Victoria as an artist but also had an amazing range of work on display that truly impressed. The prints especially were absolutely gorgeous but everything from Natterjack Doodles was wholesome and cute, I especially liked the frogs which were featured consistently throughout. Make sure to check out their Etsy, and don’t forget to follow them on Instagram and Bluesky.

Puppy Bandits
Avery’s is an incredibly talented artist and crafter, and we’ve had the pleasure of talking about them before on the site. Their range of handmade plushies from all the popular fandoms, as well as the keyrings, prints and the colouring book showcasing the artist’s fondness for the animal kingdom, are all absolute must haves. Again we were guided to a stall and artist due to the prevalence of K-Pop Demon Hunters designs, and Tori was overjoyed that the artist recognised their low-key Demon Hunter cosplay. They were an absolute delight to talk with, and they had so many amazing designs. I’m always happy to see Sonic the Hedgehog art, but even out with our special interests, Stardust Allergy is clearly an amazingly talented artist. It’s not just artists and vendors who make Comic Con great though it’s the attendees, and I was fortunate enough to chat with a few, and got some awesome cosplay photos as well. Here are a few of my favourite cosplayers throughout the weekend. Also if you were dressed as Bomberman over the weekend, I absolutely loved your costume, but didn’t manage to get a chance to chat with you and hopefully take your photo but rest assured you looked awesome.
