Paperwhite are a dream-pop/synth-pop sibling duo from Brooklyn, New York, made up of Katie and Ben Marshall. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘By Your Side’ which was released March 7th 2025.
‘By Your Side’ opens fast, with a bouncy percussive driven beat that blends into Katie’s vocals, her voice rich and just a little husky, in short absolutely fabulous. I really like the melody of this track, it’s catchy and has energy to it, but it’s not bombastic or relentless, just a solid and even beat that sweeps you along as it progresses. I especially love the rises and falls, the percussive lifts that really tie the whole melody together. This was in fact the first track I heard by the duo, and even though it was a relatively stripped back melody, it really worked, and I can guarantee I’ll be keeping an eye out for Paperwhite in the future, because this track is just so well balanced and performed.
