Wé Ani is a Harlem native who has seamlessly blended pop, r&b and jazz melodies to create her own unique music. We’ve covered the artist before on Indie Light and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘The Standard’ which was released January 12th 2024.
‘The Standard’ opens with an energetic, electronic beat, blending synthy tones and percussion, this blends into Ani’s phenomenal vocals, her voice rich, and powerful, sultry and vibrant, and absolutely show stopping. I actually only recently came across this artist thanks to the Instagram algorithm and just absolutely fell in love with her music. This track has a dark and heavy instrumental backing, bass and percussion melding together in harmony with her tight vocal performance to create a track that I’ll be sure to revisit in the future.
