Maru (which is pronounced like Maroon) who goes by Maruwhat online, is an Indie pop singer/songwriter and musician from Indonesia. They have released a variety of covers, as well as some original music. Today I’ll be reviewing his single ‘Delicate’ which was released November 11th 2023.
‘Maruwhat’ opens with delicate strings, and light percussion blending into Maruwhat’s ambient backing vocals, and his lead vocals, all coming together in a light and bright harmony. Maru’s voice is rich and yet light, he sounds friendly, which isn’t something I’ve ever described a vocalist as before, but basically I mean he just sounds nice and engaging. The melody keeps with the title and is never too heavy or hard or fast, and yet it has a subtle vibrancy that when backed up by his vocals really works for the track.
