Luvleelou is an alt/indie rock project from Jeremy Cornellier and Veronika Levesque. Today, I’ll be reviewing their EP ‘I’ll sleep while you drive’ which was released June 12th 2024.
‘I’ll sleep while you drive’ opens with a nice even tempo melody, warm and comforting, a vibe reinforced by the vocals of Jeremy and Veronika who both have incredible voices. I only recently came across the duo but this opening entry has already sold me, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for them in the future. It’s just such an energetic and hopeful and sweet song, that you can’t help but get absolutely swept away with it.
‘I’ll blame my hometown’ slows things down a touch, and it blends in dreams and a sort of melancholic worry so incredibly well. I’ve had this song on repeat quite a few times this past week because it just resonates with me. Plus as I touched on before, the pair have such incredible voices. I would like to hear more spotlights for the pair going forward but the harmonious vocals really work either way.
‘late bloomer’ is vibrant and energetic and yet heartfelt, and while I commented a moment ago about wanting more spotlight for their voices individually, this song really knocks it out of the park in terms of harmony, and you just get in the sheer vibe of the performance.
‘I’d rather be dead’ has some of my favourite vocals on the entire EP, mainly because the instrumental backing builds slowly, so it really gives the voices a chance to flourish on their own before the full weight of the energetic instrumentals join in. I will say though, I’ve got echolalia and I’m prone to random repetition of bits and pieces I hear throughout the day and I’ve gotten some funny looks this week because I’ve randomly sung ‘I’d rather be dead’ a few times now. Still it’s catchy and overall a very engaging track.
‘Cause I love you’ closes things out on a high note, high energy and emotional performances all round and an absolutely stellar conclusion to what has been an absolutely superb EP. I cannot wait to hear more from Luvleelou, and if you do anything else today I urge you to check them out via the link below.
