Wé Ani is a fantastically talented singer/songwriter and musician from Harlem, New York. She has been performing since she was 12, and most recently has competed in season 11 of The Voice, and later season 21 of American Idol. Today, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘175 Lbs’ which was released May 19th 2023.
‘175 Lbs’ kicks off slow, halting piano chords, and gentle percussion that lead into a fast paced, rhythmic vocal performance, the percussion picking up momentum as well, counterpointing her vocals and creating a high energy and engaging performance. I really enjoyed this track. Ani is a superb storyteller and an equally talented vocalist, and you just get lost in her music. Since the rebrand at the start of the year I’ve been stopping more to smell the proverbial roses, by which I mean, I’ve been enjoying and appreciating the process of running this site more, and nothing makes the effort and the grind more than getting to hear and discuss absolutely sensational musicians like Wé Ani.
