Static are a five piece alt-rock outfit from Falkirk made up of Alicia MacDonald on Vocals, Ethan Russell on Guitar, Logan Ballantyne on Guitar, Lewis Murray on Bass and Michael Miller on Drums. The group are currently signed to Student Record Label, Electric Honey Records, an Independent student run record label which has been in operation since 1992. I had the pleasure of meeting some of the group in person a week ago during my very first day at Glasgow Kelvin College where I’m studying HND Music Business. They seemed like an awesome group of people, and it is our goal here on Indie Light to share good music, and boost talented musicians. So with that in mind later this week I’ll be covering their latest ‘Drop Dead Diva’ which has an absolutely fantastic music video and today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Blurry’ which was released June 16th 2023.

‘Blurry’ explodes forward, a frenetic explosion of high intensity strings and drums, and balancing out the blaring power of the instrumentals is Alicia’s melodic voice which creates a good counterpoint. Equally though, her vocal performances throughout really blend and elevate the instrumentals, especially as they trade off the slower and comparatively subdued sections, where she can just let go and go wild. For a band I didn’t know existed last week I’m immediately a fan because they are just spectacular, as they let loose, a barely contained wild energy that just grabs you and does not let go. I’ll admit to being spoiled by this job, I get to hear so many artists but it’s always amazing to get to experience fresh and talented musicians like this. If I had a call to action for this group beyond just checking out this track it would be to hear them live because I can only imagine how much more intense they’d be in person.

So that’s what I thought of Static’s single ‘Blurry’ and you can check that out for yourself by heading on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and show support for the band by following them on Twitter and Instagram
