Elsie MacDonald is a Dundee born, Edinburgh based alt-folk singer/songwriter and musician. I’m super excited to share this track as Elsie’s talent immediately blew me away, and this track which has a hopeful melancholy woven throughout is exactly in my wheelhouse in terms of style and genre. The track in question is ‘Finest Sense’ and it was released on August 9th 2024, and is off of their upcoming EP ‘The Dressage Lessons’ which is due out in October.
‘Finest Sense’ opens with warm acoustic guitar, a vibrant backdrop to MacDonald’s vocals. Their voice is soft and melodic and perfectly suited to the hopefulness and bittersweet harmony. I’ve only just came across Elsie’s music but guaranteed I’ll be keeping my eye out for them in the future because this song is just beautiful and it washes over you in a way that it is hard to explain, but to put words to it, because that is my job after all. Some songs have pretty words sung by talented singers, and others like this craft a rich narrative, a performance that takes you somewhere over the course of the track, and that is what happened here.
So that’s what I thought of Elsie MacDonald’s single ‘Finest Sense’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
