Nghtfall is a non-binary, alt singer/songwriter and musician from Toronto, Canada. Today I’ll be reviewing their EP ‘Pretty’ which was released November 25th 2022.
‘Pretty’ kicks off with a powerful fusion of percussion and strings, blending together with Nghtfall’s vocals, their voice melodic and vibrant. I’ve only just found the artist, and yet this track alone is easily enough to ensure I’ll be keeping an eye out for them in the future. I like tracks that just unfold and you experience them in all their rawness and honesty, and that’s the experience I had with the first track on the EP.
‘Terrified’ opens with a few slow, and soft guitar notes, before starting in earnest, a heavier, percussive beat flowing forward, merging again with Nghtfall’s voice. I really like their vocal style. I’ve mentioned before with a few other artists how some people can just portray emotion, especially things like sadness really well, and that’s the case here, you can feel everything the artist is feeling and you just get caught up in the whole performance.
‘Blood’ opens quickly with Nghtfall’s vocals, just filling the space, before being joined by the frenzied blend of strings and percussion. I really like the artist, I think they are an incredible vocalist and performer, but I also need to mention how strong the instrumental sections are, especially in this track, but overall throughout the EP. This track is spectacular though, I don’t think Nghtfall has a misstep on this release but this one is my personal favourite, just because of the blend of outstanding instrumentals and engaging and vibrant vocals.
‘Tried’ is a little slower off the bat than the previous tracks, but it builds really well, a solid progression of melody and beat as it progresses. I said above and I want to repeat, the artist may be new to me but each track on this EP has solidly convinced me to keep them on my radar going forward.
So that’s what I thought of Nghtfall’s EP ‘Pretty’ which you can check out over on Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
