LONG/LAST are a post hardcore group from Colorado made up of Gabe Dresback on Vocals, Forrest Keller on Guitar and Victor Aguirre on Bass. Today, I’ll be reviewing their EP ‘Teeth’ which was released May 4th 2024.

‘Teeth’ opens with a heavy, building melody, which explodes into a vibrant fusion of strings and percussion. It breaks slightly, just a tight percussion beat, as the vocals bleed through, and the singer is a superb performer, absolutely hammering forward, the result is an intense and high energy melody that absolutely does not quit. I love the interplay towards the end, the charging guitars and heavy drum beat, which ends an already strong opening track on an even stronger note.

‘Suffocate’ is slower off the bat, but instead creates this dark, dynamic and theatrical melody which is truly impressive. I knew from the opening track that I’d like this band, but this track cements it, it’s a truly exceptional piece of music, vocally it’s there, instrumentally it absolutely excels and the vibes are absolutely on point.

‘Obviously’ is another slower track, more melodic this time, softer more ambient vocals and lighter instrumentals, it does build though just more gradually, and rather than a relentless build and high intensity like the opening track, it instead is a nice mix of rise and fall, highs and lows. Speaking of the highs, the intense blaring power of the strings and the hammering consistency of the drumbeats perfectly serve the vocals, but equally, in the softer moments when the track is more stripped back and subdued, the vocalist really gets a chance to shine.

‘Therapy’ opens with a pounding, bass and percussive heavy beat, it really works really well and blends together seamlessly with the vocals, which again have a more melodic note. As a counterpoint to the more melodic vocals are even heavier percussive and string sections, and parts where the vocalist just lets loose and gives it their all.

So that’s what I thought of Long/Last’s EP ‘Teeth’ and you can check that out over on Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
