The Honest Poet is a South Wales based singer/songwriter and musician who blends a variety of genres including spoken word, R&B, soul and hip-hop to create their own unique brand of music. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Toxic City’ which was released December 15th 2023.

‘Toxic City’ opens with a reverberant, synthy vocal section which repeats and builds, creating a quirky rhythm from which the artist explodes forward, his own voice rich and deep and resplendent as he performs, and you really see the unique blend of genre and style as he delivers the lyrics. I love the beat and melody, against the backdrop and overall instrumental structure it’s really smart and works really well. The Honest Poet is an incredibly talented artist, and this track is just phenomenal, both emotional and engaging, and yet lively and energetic, which creates a really interesting balance, as emotional tracks tend to be more soft and slow, and yet this really hits right and completely blew me away.
