Jackie Lipson is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter and musician, who identifies as Queer, Non-Binary, Neurodivergent and Jewish amongst others. Each of these groups is consistently marginalised, and I can personally attest as a fellow member of several of these groups that community is not easy to find, and that mental health is always a concern. I myself co-founded an LGBT+ group, Unity League, alongside my fellow Contributor Tori B Bearly and Avery Dixon from Puppy Bandits because we identified a need for support in our local community and wished to improve the overall mental health of people like us by providing a place for community and engagement. Lipson discusses mental health and “the feeling of helplessness and the lack of control of untreated mental illness” in this track. Speaking of which, today I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Chemicals’ which was released May 9th 2023.

‘Chemicals’ opens with a bright synthy tone that bleeds into Lipson’s deep and sensational vocals, her voice is powerful and engaging and just transformative. The song talks about missing serotonin, which all my peeps (including myself) on SSRIs can relate to, and I can assure you the vibrancy, the energy, the sincerity, the honesty and the pure star power emanating from this track tickles your brain just right. I try to be positive on this site without pandering or being false, but this track seriously blew me away. I am two days from my birthday and I’ve spent the day deep cleaning my home and practising some much needed self care, and I had this song on consistently throughout the day, letting the melody and the message wash over me. I urge y’all to take care of yourselves, and part of this right now is listening to this track because Lipson is a phenomenal talent who I’m genuinely excited to share with you.

So that’s what I thought of Jackie Lipson’s single ‘Chemicals’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
