The Gaslamp Killer is the performing name of Los Angeles, hip hop producer and DJ, William Benjamin Bensussen. Today, I’ll be reviewing his single ‘Punk’s which was released April 21st 2023.

‘Punks’ opened with so fast but light percussive fills that slowly filled out with a funky synthy melody, building and developing, strong but distorted guitars layering on to, the whole melody fleshing out and building to create a frenzied and yet still surprisingly even tempoed tune. This was my first exposure to the artist but he’s obviously very talented, able to craft complex and textured tracks that have an ideal balance of rhythm and beat, harder, harsher sounds blending with smoother, softer audios to create something that’s genuinely interesting to listen to. I feel especially the more jarring audios and harder notes are very fitting for a track called ‘Punks’ but honestly the whole single just really works.
