Nikita Lev is a singer/songwriter and musician from New York who performs a unique brand of indie-rock/folk melodies. If you’d like to find out a little bit more about the artist, then click here to check out our interview. Today, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Nihilistic Baby’ which was released October 10th 2023.
‘Nihilistic Baby’ opens fast with a nice striking chord melody that keeps consistently as the track progresses, and then Nikita’s vocals kick in, and I am immediately blown away by the maturity, depth and emotional resonance of their voice. The track instrumentally remains relatively simple, it picks up in energy as we carry on, percussion fleshing out the initial melody, ambient vocal harmonies also adding to the structure creating a rich and engaging track that stuck with me after I heard it. As with a good few of the artists I’ve reviewed recently I wasn’t familiar with Nikita before being sent their music but I’m so glad it dropped in my inbox because her deceptively simple and yet emotionally complex melodies are good music and I look forward to hearing more from the artist.
