mxmtoon is the performing name of Maia, a folk-pop/Lo-fi hip-hop singer/songwriter and musician. She is originally from Oakland, California but is now based in Brooklyn, New York City. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Nobody Loves Me’ which was released June 29th 2023.

‘Nobody Loves Me’ opens softly and slowly, the acoustic guitar blanketing you in comfort, the melody opening up with gentle tones, and the beautiful, melodic vocals fill you up. I’ve been an admirer of mxmtoon for a while and I just love their soulful, emotional, folksy performance. Their harmonies and the counterpoint between the other vocals on this track do add a lot. In particular, I need to mention that the vocal performances in this track were breath-taking. I love artists that can make sadness beautiful, and not just in the traditional way, but in a way that resonates with you and makes you feel that even if things are sad they might not always be that way. Speaking of which, the ending introduces a discordant noise into the melody, which works really well, it feels like an upset within a song about upset and works really well. I really enjoyed this track, it really spoke to me, and was well worth listening to, and if you haven’t already I strongly advise you seek out mxmtoon for yourself.

So that’s what I thought of mxmtoon’s single ‘Nobody Loves Me’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
