Penny Mob are a three piece indie rock outfit made up of Jamie Quinn on Guitar/Vocals, Jay Luther on Bass/Vocals and Andrew Mullan on Drums/Vocals. We’ve covered Penny Mob before on Indie Light, and you can click here to read more. Today, I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Sexy Lexi’ which was released May 5th 2023.
‘Sexy Lexi’ opens with an up-tempo, bass powered intro that bridges into the vocals, repeating the title of the track, before exploding into a fun, cacophonous, powerful, frenzy of all the instrumentals working together. This track has a really great energy and melody, ferocious and heavy, deep thrashing strings and percussion, and yet it’s a little silly, and it isn’t taking itself too seriously. I love the balance of mood and energy, it creates a really engaging and memorable strong. I really like Quinn’s voice, it balances this juxtaposing style really well, his naturally light cadence, and Scottish accent adding to the melody. I already knew I was going to like this track from Penny Mob, because I thoroughly enjoyed their debut EP, but it’s so great getting to hear an entirely different facet to their music. I felt in the EP that they explored and did justice to a few different styles and moods, and this track is yet another successful exploration.
So that’s what I thought of Penny Mob’s single ‘Sexy Lexi’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
