Scratching is an ongoing creative project between Australian singer/songwriter Grace Sanders and frequent collaborator Ezekiel Padmanabham, where they experiment with folk, pop and electronic music. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Peter’ which was released October 27th 2023.

‘Peter’ kicks off with Sanders’ vocals that fill you up, uplifting and pure and transcendent, a harsher percussive string beat sort of counterpoints her soulful delivery, creating a rich and balanced melody. I wasn’t familiar with the group of the artists separately but I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for them because this is a phenomenal track. Especially as the instrumental backing and vocal delivery get a little faster, rougher, harder, creating a more emotional cadence as well approach the end of the track. That being said the track remains fairly tonally consistent throughout, the development and building gradual enough you almost don’t notice as it seamlessly builds and breaks and yet the whole time you’re enraptured by the performance. I strongly urge you to check it out if you haven’t already because it’s well worth it.

So that’s what I thought of Scratching’s single ‘Peter’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook and Instagram
