Shelby Merry is a musician and Singer/Songwriter from Ohio, noted for composing on the TBS/Adult Swim series Final Space, and for her music releases, including but not limited to Dark Ages and Tiger Heart. If you’re interested you can also check out some of my other reviews of Merry’s music by clicking here. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Someday’ which was released February 24th 2023.
‘Someone’ opens with a building, sustained tone, which slowly gathers other notes around it, building gentle chords striking, creating a soothing undertone to Merry’s vocals. Her voice is pure and sensational as always. I’ve said before Merry is a master of the melancholy, and sorry for the near alliteration, but she has this amazing capacity to make sad sound so beautiful, her voice just reaches something in me, and she’s one of the artists i’ve consistently enjoyed with each new release. I’ll be reviewing a few of Merry’s more recent tracks that I’ve missed during my extended mental health hiatus on the lead up to reviewing their latest album ‘Young Guns X’ in a couple days, and it’s been such an experience, because while Merry has a tone, a cadence and a vibe that captures sadness and emotive depth, she also makes me feel hopeful, her songs have such gravitas and poignancy and I just want to share that with you all. Check them out, you won’t regret it.
So that’s what I thought of Shelby Merry’s single ‘Someone’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, why not show support for the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Don’t forget to check out Merry’s store, for some awesome merch as well.
