Mighty One are a South West based indie duo made up of Emma Kingston and Mark Stidson, who are both multi-instrumentalists. The group has been around since 2020, but both artists have been performing as solo artists for several years prior. Today I’ll be reviewing their debut single ‘Wake The Dead’ which was released November 17th 2023.

‘Wake The Dead’ opens with synthy tones that bleed immediately into vocals, Emma’s voice clear and pure and powerful, especially when backed up by solid percussive elements and an vocal harmony underneath that further fleshes out the track. The pacing is really interesting, the drums are fast paced and inject urgency and energy into the track, but the strings and vocals slow thing down just a touch, adding a nice counterpoint to the melody, although both pick up as the track progresses, more energy and intensity as the track flows forward. Honestly this track is such a breath of fresh air, it’s punchy and memorable, has a fun and frenzied beat that I defy you not to enjoy and overall, and especially for a debut track it’s just a phenomenal composition that really makes me eager for more.

So that’s what I thought of Mighty One’s single ‘Wake The Dead’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook and Instagram.
