Donna Lewis is a Welsh singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, originally from Cardiff, but now based in Boiceville, New York. She is probably best known for her hit single ‘I Love You Always Forever’, which was released in 1996 and reached the top 10s for numerous charts across the globe, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and the United States. Today I’ll reviewing her single ‘Corridors’ which is off her album ‘Room With a View’ and is a tribute to a nurse, Eileen, who provided great comfort to Donna when she was being treated for breast cancer back in 2021, and was released November 10th 2023.
‘Corridors’ opens with a fast paced percussive beat, overlaid with a slower synthy tonal melody, that blends perfectly with Lewis’s husky voice, rich and vibrant, just gripping you tight. I like the energy of this track, it’s got a lot of drive behind it, I expected something softer, slower, and while I would hesitate to say the track is fast paced, it does have its own dynamic vibe that is really captivating. I’ll admit to having never really heard about Lewis prior to being sent this in my inbox, and that’s a devastating oversight on my part because she creates a phenomenal musical production, that makes full use of the electronic backdrop, to perfectly support her strong vocal contributions that are both dream-like and lively all at once. I am so excited for the release of the upcoming album, if this track is any indication of quality and feel, and as I said a moment ago, Lewis has already secured a new fan.
