Danswell and the Symptoms is the solo musical project of Dan Tanswell, a Cardiff based, non-binary, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Somnambulism’ which was released November 3rd 2023.

‘Somnambulism’ opens with distortion that breaks immediately into one of the sickest guitar riffs I’ve ever heard, and maybe this is just me, evokes the Red Dwarf theme. Dan’s vocals are layered on top, as they properly belt out the lyrics. It’s a track that’s vital, and rough, and powerful and that you cannot help getting engrossed in. I love the slightly discordant nature between the title, which is the scientific name for sleepwalking and this heavy and hammering track that would seem to be the antithesis of sleep, walking or otherwise. The technical skill in the strings and percussion is phenomenal and I just loved the whole vibe, imposing and heavy and I loved every second of it.
