Ali Coyle is an openly queer, first generation, Irish-American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Santa Anya, California. She creates intricate indie pop music, with folk infused stylings. This will be my first time covering the artist, and today I’m proud to share my thoughts on her single ‘Dreamkiller’ which was released November 8th 2023.
‘Dreamkiller’ opens with a simple but quirky electronic beat that goes for a few seconds before being fleshed out by a busier backing melody that flows into Coyle’s soulful vocals. I expected this track to have a harder note to it, but I was wrong, and pleased to be so, because this is a pure and easy dreamy pop track that just wraps itself around you. As I said up top I hadn’t heard Coyle prior to receiving this track in my inbox, but I’ll definitely be adding them to my watch list (or should that be a listen list?) because this track is engaging, and bright, and sad and complex, with just the perfect pacing to capture the right vibe. Plus I love embellishments in music, like instrumental or vocal elements you wouldn’t expect and towards the end it has these beautiful horns that add in a richness and depth to an already phenomenal track. I urge you to check out this song, as well as Coyle’s full discography because they are more than worth your time.
So that’s what I thought of Ali Coyle’s single ‘Dreamkiller’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it make sure and support the artist by following them on Twitter and Instagram.
