Humm are a contemporary folk duo from Bath made up of Arty Jackson and Carys Lewin. They are noted for their finger style guitar playing and for a reverence for nature which appears frequently in their music. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Danced Alone (who i am when i’m in love)’ which was released October 20th 2023.

‘Danced Alone (who i am when i’m in love)’ opens with soft acoustic guitar, a gentle melody that perfectly supports the rich vocals, and the manual percussion all come together creating a vibrant and pure track that just begs to be listened to. I felt the vocal harmony really worked, the pair have very different vocal registers and so they create a perfect balance through the performance, I also liked that deliberate or not, the male vocals were more sporadic overall, adding to the whole dancing alone feel. I love this type of music, it’s not catchy in that pop ballad kind of way but it lingers in your mind and heart after you hear it. I fell in love with this track from the first moment, and I’ll be sure to rack up multiple repeats, as this is the kind of song that’s hard to say goodbye to.

So that’s what I thought of Humm’s single ‘Danced Alone (who i am when i’m in love)’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and show support for the duo by following them on Facebook and Instagram.
