Hana Piranha refers to both artist and outfit, the titular Hana was born into the turbulence of a hurricane, an event which informs her dark alternative rock. Hana is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Wellington, New Zealand, who later moved to England to pursue her musical dreams. Alongside Hana, performing as part of Hana Piranha are Jim Beck, Mishkin Fitzgerald and Andrew Lane. Today I’ll be reviewing their single ‘Lorelei’ which was released October 27th 2023.

‘Lorelei’ opens with a deep dark, thrumming percussive beat, backed up by electronic tones and a building ambient vibe that creates suspense and dread, a tremendous opening, to what I’m sure is going to be a stellar track. Hana’s vocal delivery is very staccato and well paced, adding to the overall dark gothic vibe, and it really sells it. The powerful swelling guitars and heavier percussion also help to deliver maximum impact, as well as just being downright awesome. I fell in love with the deep dark sincerity and power behind this track, and I cannot wait to hear more from Hana Piranha, as this track has been sensational, and unique, a flurry of energy and passion and intensity that just captures you and does not let up. I love how well balanced it is, bridging the gaps between the highs and lows, to create a dramatic, theatrical, tension filled melody that truly blew my socks off.

So that’s what I thought of Hana Piranha’s single ‘Lorelei’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. Make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
