Wuzy Bambussy is the performing name of Nikolai Jones, a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the West Country. Today I’ll be reviewing his single ‘Shoo Be Di Do’ which was released August 2nd 2023.
‘Shoo Be Di Do’ opens with an interesting melody, strings and a jangling tone I couldn’t quite place, balanced out by a light percussion that creates this funky, light and harmonious tune that really works well. It certainly stuck in my head after I’d heard it. It flows really well into Harrison’s vocals, her voice is sensational, soulful and vibrant, and high toned, balanced well with the established vibe and melody, but she counterpoints that well with the occasional huskier, smoky vocal tone that keeps things fresh. This track is big, bouncy and has a wonderful sense of energy and momentum, where it keeps you bobbing along and suddenly it’s over quite before you realise. Especially since there’s a dip about halfway through where it seems like it’s over only for it to come back in, and go even harder, wonderful horns and woodwind, and the wonderful swinging melody all supporting and uplifting the vocals. I’ve said it before and no doubt I’ll say it again, but it is a privilege to do this job because I get sent and get to hear and discuss so many amazing tracks and artists. I’m sure you’ll see more of Wuzy Bambussy on the page, as I cover the rest of the releases this year, so stay tuned!
