Sabrina Carpenter is an American actress, singer/songwriter and musician from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. She has had multiple roles in film and television over the years including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Girl Meets World and Adventures in Babysitting just to name a few.
Carpenter has also been passionate about music since she was a young girl, and began posting videos of her singing on YouTube from age 10. To cultivate this passion, her father built her a recording studio, and obviously it paid off because in 2011 she entered a singing contest ‘The Next Miley Cyrus Project’ which was actually run by Miley Cyrus, Carpenter placed third in this contest. Today, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Thumbs’ which is about ’embracing what makes you unique, about finding your individuality and not settling more mediocrity’ and was released October 14th 2016.
‘Thumbs’ opens with a thrumming, building, melodic, synth driven beat that blends into Sabrina’s vocals, and seriously, her voice is just sensational. I like the percussive clicking, it adds a punctuating tone to the delivery, and even as the beat picks up, Sabrina cuts through it and absolutely smashes it out of the park. It’s a really powerful track, and you get to see and explore the range and intensity of her voice throughout the song, and the instrumental backing is a hammering back-up that emboldens her performance and makes for a very catchy and memorable track that honestly just blew me away.
So that’s what I thought of Sabrina Carpenter’s single ‘Thumbs’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and show your support for the artist, and keep up to date with their latest goings on, by checking out their website and by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
