Iwan Rheon is a Welsh actor, singer/songwriter and musician. As an actor, he is probably most well known either for his role as Simon Bellamy in the E4 series Misfits or as Ramsay Bolton on the HBO series, Game of Thrones. He also has musical talent, and aspirations, and we’ve covered him on Indie Light, a couple times now, and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing his debut EP ‘Tongue Tied’ which was released June 14th 2010.

‘Happy Again’ opens with soft acoustic guitars, that flows into Rheon’s vocals, and he has a really rich voice, I wasn’t sure what to expect because his acting role that I’m most familiar with he plays a character who is not just a shy, but one who doesn’t talk a lot but he has a masterful control of his voice and is a very talented guitarist and performer. This is a superb first track on a debut EP, which shows an already fully realised talent and passion which can only get better with time.

‘Follow Me’ is slower, and shows a more melodic side to Rheon’s vocals, his voice is deep and powerful but he shows his range and skill in this entry producing something gentle and pure which nonetheless really moves you as the listener.

‘Tongue Tied’ maintains the slower, more tempered feel of the previous number, but it’s another show stopping vocal delivery, his voice just has a really deep, melodic timbre to it which works reality well pretty much regardless of what he’s singing. I also liked that the track picked up, allowing him to really stretch, delivering a frenzied vocal and guitar section that really works and firmly cements this track as my personal favourite on the EP.

‘Simple Song’ opens with a soft guitar and a vocal delivery which once again gives him an opportunity to show his full range and skillset as a singer and performer. I think this has the strongest guitar sections on the EP, but it’s close because there are no weak sections. I think this was a strong finale to what has been a very great first EP, and I’ll be sure to check out what he’s done since this 2010 release.

So that’s what I thought of Iwan Rheon’s EP ‘Tongue Tied’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
