Jonathan Young is an incredibly talented musician, producer and YouTuber, probably most well known for his covers, especially Heavy Metal covers of popular songs. We’ve reviewed him before on the site, and you can click here to check that out for yourself. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing his cover of ‘Shiny’ from the Moana soundtrack, which was released January 15th 2017.
‘Shiny’ really gives Jonathan a chance to shine vocally, he has a strong voice, and he really doesn’t pull any punches. Now the original track was sung by Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords, and he has a very different vocal style to Jonathan and yet he manages to bring his own vibe to things. I especially liked the heavier, blaring guitars and percussive elements which add a real edge to the track, adding to the very real sense of dread and menace present in the original song.
So that’s what I thought of Jonathan Young’s cover of ‘Shiny’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to YouTube. While you’re at it, make sure to check out his website and Patreon and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
