Shelby Merry is an American singer/songwriter, musician and composer from Gallipolis, Ohio. She is also an author, having published her debut novel ‘Second Planet’ which was released June 10th 2017, and you can click here to grab yourself a copy from Amazon. If first came across Merry’s music after it was featured on the animated TV series, Final Space, for which she was the musical composer for seasons 1 and 2. We’ve covered Merry a few times on the site, and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Gallows’ which if off her album ‘Young Guns’ which was released November 16th 2013.

‘Gallows’ so first up, Final Space is an awesome show, well worth a watch, however completely separate from being featured in Final Space, I fell in love with this song a hundred different times, it’s just so poignant and impactful. Merry’s voice is a triumph of the melancholic and bittersweet, just something truly beautiful, resonant and special. It’s not even just one thing though, I love the sliding guitars, the soft acoustic lilting that flows into the vocals, and which just hold you tight. I’ll admit a slight tendency to become obsessed with specific songs, and much like many of my other favourite tracks, this one has just endeared itself to me. It is a singularly impactful and meaningful piece of music, which I’ll honestly never tire of hearing because it touches my heart.

So that’s all I have to say about ‘Gallows’ by Shelby Merry and if you’d like to check it out for yourself, alongside the full album, then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it show support for the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
