DeadBeat at Dawn are a five piece Ska/Punk/Rap outfit from North Yorkshire made up of Disco Dave on Guitar, Shrimp on Bass, Aaron BeatUp on Vocals, Mr Dead on Vocals and Nobby on Drums. Today, I’ll be reviewing their Double A-side singles ‘Survival Zone/Skapocalypse’ which was released December 11th 2021.

‘Survival Zone’ opens with a thrumming bassline, with an electronic overlay, and then the vocals explode forward, a blazing drive that just knocks you flat. It has energy and a precision that’s to be admired. I love when I get to unambiguously say that I’m glad I encountered a group, because this was rad, I even liked the esoteric little soundbite about halfway through. It slowed things down but fit well with both the theme of the song as well as just being kinda cool. I loved the heavier percussive thrashing towards the end, as things pick up for a frenzied, full pelt finish. 

‘Skapocalypse’ also opens fast, with heavy drums off the bat, and a slightly more tempered vocal delivery, but still a lot of heat and a lot of energy, plus if anything as it builds, this track seems a lot busier. I love the energy of both tracks, just the sheer power of it, but also the offbeat vibe of the track, cause you can really feel the passion and personality of the band coming through in both tracks.
