Beth Macari is a phenomenally talented singer/songwriter and musician from Newcastle, who in her own words ‘brings a whole heap of soul and R&B to the North East of England’. I’ve covered Macari before on the site, and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Gotta Get Back’ which was released April 13th 2021.

‘Gotta Get Back’ opens with some broad chords and the familiar crackling that reminds me of old records, Beth Macari’s vocals kick in and I am just in awe. I was already familiar with her show stopping voice, but it seems like it’s not something that’s easy to prepare for. I liked the melody of this track, it had a nice swing to it, was well paced, and supported Macari’s absolute vocal storm. I think all songs to be truly successful need to be catchy, and this has a nice hook, and a distinct but memorable beat to it that’ll have you humming it a week later. After hearing this I am eagerly awaiting more.
