Waxlimbs are a four piece theatrical alt-rock outfit from Toronto, Canada made up of Will Jarvis on Guitar/Vocals, Lex Metcalfe on Bass/Vocals, Olivia Claire on Keys/Synth/Vocals and Paul Geldart on Drums. Today I’ll be reviewing their latest track ‘Dead in the Water’ which was released October 30th 2020.
‘Dead in the Water’ starts off slow, with a single thrumming note, drawn out, joined by others as the melody builds up, almost teasing you with the subtle pacing. The melody is heavy and bassy, with nice reverb, it feels a little dark and melancholic, which is right in my wheelhouse. I liked the harmony of the vocals, that picked up right as the bassline became harder and faster, and speaking of vocals, Waxlimbs sure has song strong vocals talents. I mean this as a compliment but the female vocalist, Olivia reminds me vocally, a little bit of Zooey Deschanel, significantly less kooky and a lot more practiced, but at least to me there’s a similar cadence. Overall this was a great track, and a wonderful introduction to a group that I’m sure to be following from now on.
