The Blue Herons is a musical project from Switzerland based musician Andy Jossi. We’ve reviewed The Blue Herons a few times on Indie Light, and you can check that out here. He’s also the man behind band, The Churchhill Garden, and you can check out my reviews of that project by clicking here. The Blue Herons was initially conceived of as a solo project, with occasional featured artists such as as Krissy Vanderwoude and Thierry Haliniak. However Andy felt he needed another voice to keep growing the project, and he eventually brought on Gretchen DeVault and thus The Blue Herons expanded. Today I will be reviewing their single ‘In The Skies’ which was released October 25th 2020.

‘In The Skies’ opens with nice ambient guitars, and light percussion that picks up in energy as the track progresses, Gretchen’s vocals are equally a treat, strong and clear and in sync with the almost happy dreamlike quality of the instrumentals. This soft, almost muted track, still manages to pack an emotional wallop as you just experience it. This is one of those tracks that starts off good, but just gets even better with repeated listened, because you are so caught up in it the first few times you might just miss little things like the chimes mixed lightly throughout, and heavily at the end which are so simple and yet add so much to the track.

So that’s what I thought of The Blue Herons single ‘In The Skies’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. In the meantime support the band following them on Facebook.
