Lewis Capaldi is a singer/songwriter and musician from West Lothian, Scotland who won the 2020 Brit Award for Best New Artist, and whose single we will be reviewing today remained at the top of the UK singles chart for 7 weeks, and also reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Today, in honour of Lewis Capaldi’s 24th birthday, I thought I’d review his single ‘Someone You Loved’ which was released November 8th 2018.
‘Someone You Loved’ opens with soft piano keys that flow wonderfully into Capaldi’s vocals which are soulful and just really hit home. As I mentioned up top, this song has been around and I’ve listened to about a hundred different covers of this track in different styles, with different instrumentals and vocalists of varying technique and yet nothing quite stacks up to the original. It’s just so pure and honest, and yet it manages to be relatively simple. I’ve listened to a fair few of his tracks since I first heard this and he’s clearly a very talented vocalist, his voice is rich and warm and yet equally capable of portraying hurt and tragedy but again I still rate this as his number 1. And it’s not even just the vocals which are amazing, the piano melody just really sweeps you away, it’s just uncomplicated and yet it makes you think and feel things that are anything but. And despite being a slower, more emotional song it works as good listening music while you’re on the go as well.
So that’s what I thought of Lewis Capaldi’s single ‘Someone You Loved’ and if you want to check it out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. Also go ahead and follow the artist on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up to date with him or check out his website.
