Caleb Hyles is a singer/songwriter and YouTuber, from Montgomery, Alabama. This isn’t his first time being featured on the site either, and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing his cover of Country Roads by John Denver, which features a collaboration with Jonathan Young. Caleb’s cover was released April 6th 2019, and you can find out my thoughts on it below.
‘Country Roads (John Denver Cover)’ is a cover of an absolute tune, I got re-obsessed with this song after watching Kingsman: The Golden Circle where Mark Strong’s rendition in a Scottish brogue just gave me chills. Anyway long story short, looking for other covers of that song I found Caleb’s version. He has such a strong and diverse vocal range and he commits so much to his music that I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a song he didn’t knock out of the park but while it was very different from Mark Strong’s version or the original it worked really well. Much like with his cover of My Immortal I had this one on repeat after first hearing it, this one had comfort and warmth to it that kept me coming back as opposed to the incredible intensity of his other ones which is usually what has me replaying a track.
So that’s what I thought of Caleb Hyles’s cover of ‘Country Roads (by John Denver)’ and if you want to check that out you can head on over to YouTube.
