Elizabeth Melise Jow, known professionally as Malese Jow is an American actress and singer. I first came across Malese after she was featured on The Vampire Diaries, as Anna. I feel in love with her character, she brought such a depth and innocence to the role, and it really helped me to engage with her story arc. Since then I’ve seen her on The Flash as Linda Park/Doctor Light and Shannara Chronicles as Mareth Ravenlock. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her single ‘Trying to Sleep’ which was released June 1st 2018.
‘Trying to Sleep’ kicks off immediately with Malese’s vocals and a vibrant and high energy instrumental backing that supports them perfectly. I am truly in awe of her voice though, I suspected she’d be talented but her vocals are amazing, I’m just sad this is the first time I’ve heard her sing because she has a voice that’s strong, distinct, clear and yet truly beautiful. Listening to it, everything fell away apart from her voice, but zoning back in I was also impressed by the deeply layered and quick tempo instrumentals that act almost as a counterpoint to her more soulful and slower ballad.
