SPIRITBOX are an five piece indie/alternative rock group from The Netherlands made up of Ruben Schimmel on Guitar/Backing, Nick van Eekelen on Guitar, Hans Meertens on Acoustic Guitar/Keys/Vocals, Jasper Janssens on Bass/Backings and Tomas Dekkers on Drums/Percussion. This isn’t the first time I’ve reviewed the band either, and if you’re interested in reading that click here. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing their single ‘The Burner’ which was released December 24th 2019.
‘The Burner’ opens with a far-off, distorted noise that builds a sense of unease, this is compounded by the slow, measured tone of the vocals, they create a darker, heavier feel for this song which is really appealing. I also think the delivery has undertones of Johnny Cash in it, and that itself lends a lot to this track. I especially liked listening to this one, and just letting it wash over me, closing my eyes and listening to the complex, melody and harmonious vocals, that all add up to form a truly impressive entry.
